This domain is 7% of CCAR-P, about 4 of the 63 questions, the smallest on the exam. It covers the architect's role in making engineering teams effective with Claude: a shared, governed setup, better day-to-day workflows, and faster diagnosis when something breaks.

The vocabulary: Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding tool, which reads a codebase, edits files and runs commands. Its settings files decide what it may do (permissions), and they exist at several levels, from an organisation-wide managed policy down to one developer's machine. CLAUDE.md files give it standing project instructions. Headless mode runs it without a person at the keyboard, for example in a build pipeline.

The recurring test: configure once, share it, and keep people in charge of what ships. A team setting belongs in version control or a managed policy, not in each developer's head; Claude speeds up investigation and review, while tests, reviewers and permissions decide what reaches production. Options that rely on every developer configuring their own tool, or that let AI-written changes skip review, are usually the distractors.

What the exam guide tests

The official CCAR-P guide lists 3 objectives for this domain. Exam questions are written against them, and so are the lessons: each row says where it is covered.

7.1Configure Claude tools and environments for teams (e.g., Claude Code)7.1
7.2Improve developer workflows using AI-assisted tooling7.2
7.3Support debugging and operational issue resolution7.3

Lessons

  1. 7.1 Configuring Claude Code for teams: layers, shared setup and policyWhich Claude Code settings layer wins, what a team commits to its repository, what only managed policy can enforce, and how to govern access, models and spend.21 min
  2. 7.2 Improving developer workflows with Claude Code, and measuring the effectWhere AI coding help pays off, the Claude Code workflows that keep quality high, and how to measure the effect by cycle time and failure rate, not lines.22 min
  3. 7.3 Debugging and incidents with Claude: evidence first, read-only by designHow Claude speeds up debugging and incident response: the evidence to give it, read-only access to operational data, and proving each cause before acting.21 min

The question bank is free. It asks for an account only because the quiz engine has to store answers to score them and show which domains are weak. The questions on this page need nothing.
